這個短語通常有兩個意思:
(1) 曾輝煌過, 昔盛今衰
(2) 變得陳舊, 無用, 處于破損狀態
如果仔細琢磨一下, 這兩個意思其實是一樣的。
這個短語, 總是用完成時, 例：
I need a new coat, this one has seen better days. 這件很舊了
Old Sam is poor now, but he has seen better days.? 風光過
This part of South London has seen better days. 破舊不堪
see 在這里有"經歷"的意思, 這個短語起初是描寫那些破落了的曾經的富人，現在更多用來描寫物品的破舊。
這個短語出自托馬斯·莫爾爵士( Sir Thomas More 1478－1535 英格蘭政治家、作家、社會哲學家）。莎士比亞在喜劇中多次使用這個短語。

go into 如果后面跟一種行業或專業，便指“從事某行業”或“學習某專業”
