“Dog”是“damned”的委婉說法，也就是很隱晦地罵人方式。而有的時候，脫口而出就變成了一種表示驚訝的方式。

有的時候貓跟狗相安無事，有的時候貓跟狗就打架。漢語里經(jīng)常說“貓一天，狗一天”指有的時候關(guān)系好，有的時候關(guān)系不好。英文里主要用這種方式來形容夫妻和情人之間的生活。
例子：They were so happy together when they first started dating, but after 10 years together, they've started leading a cat-and-dog life.
狗跟貓?jiān)谝黄鸬臅r候，狗經(jīng)常追著貓跑，貓很生氣兩個人就吵架。
